Murray is a senior counsel with Vandeventer Black and concentrates his practice in Construction, Insurance Defense, Financial Institutions and Aviation law. He represents architects, engineers, developers, financial institutions and liability carriers.
With almost 40 years of experience backing him, Murray has represented clients in trial and appellate courts from New York to Texas and is known as one of the most respected and experienced lawyers in the nation. He received a B.A. from Vanderbilt University and a J.D. from Vanderbilt University School of Law.
After moving up the ranks at a prominent Richmond law firm, he branched out in 1986 and founded Wright Robinson McCammon & Tatum. Over the next 20 years, that firm grew to boast five offices from California to Richmond with over 200 employees. After a brief “retirement” Murray joined Vandeventer Black.
Murray is known for his long standing devotion to the design professions and has earned his place as honorary member of the Virginia Society of the American Institute of Architects. He is past Chairman of the Virginia State Bar Construction Law Section, and a Fellow in the American College of Construction Lawyers. He is a frequent speaker and author in the industry.
In addition to his law career, Murray is an active businessman. He understands both the operational and legal nuances of the business world. In 1987, he founded the company now known as BizPort Ltd. and remains chairman of the board. In 1996, he participated in the founding of TrialNet, a national provider of matter management and electronic billing services, which is headquartered in Richmond; he continues to serve on the board. Murray is also founding member and Managing Director of Avitas Capital, an investment advisory and banking firm. Synalloy Corporation (NASDAQ symbol SYNL) elected Murray to its Board of Directors in 2002, where he continues to serve as chairman of the Compensation Committee and member of the Audit Committee.
