Shalanda is an attorney with Vandeventer Black and concentrates her practice in estate planning and administration, labor and employment, business transactions, creditor’s rights and general litigation.
Shalanda earned her J.D. from The College of William & Mary School of Law, where she received the Gambrell Professionalism Award, was president of the Black Law Students Association and a student member of I’Anson Hoffman Inns of Court. She also studied abroad through the William & Mary Summer Law Program in Madrid, Spain. She earned her B.S. in Marketing from Pennsylvania State University, where she received the Bunton-Waller Fellowship and Schreyers Honors College Graduate awards.
Shalanda worked with Vandeventer Black in 2007 as a summer associate, focusing on construction and business law, as well as closely-held companies and estate planning. In 2006 she interned with Community Mediation Center, where she earned credit toward general mediation training and taught conflict resolution and anger management skills to youth at Portsmouth Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court and adults at area homeless shelters.
Before going to law school, Shalanda participated in Verizon’s Retail Markets Marketing Management Development Program in Richmond, Virginia and Irving, Texas. While working for Verizon, she received a Verizon Excellence Award for her innovative contributions to the small business sales team.
